Only in Florida: Witches set world record high above Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — October 23, 2026. Forget broomsticks. In Florida, witches are apparently upgrading to giant observation wheels.

With Halloween just around the corner, 184 people dressed as witches gathered at The Orlando Eye to make history, taking their celebration approximately 400 feet above the city.

The unusual event took place Wednesday evening, October 21, at ICON Park on International Drive, transforming one of Orlando’s most recognizable attractions into a gathering of pointed hats, black cloaks and Halloween costumes.

And according to event organizers, the witches succeeded in setting a new world record.

184 Witches, One Giant Wheel

The goal was simple but unusual: gather the largest number of people dressed as witches riding an observation wheel at the same time.

A total of 184 participants joined the record-setting event, filling the observation wheel’s enclosed capsules during a sunset ride over Orlando.

The participant count was verified by Norah White, president and CEO-elect of the I-Drive District, according to organizers.

The event was presented as a new world record for the most people dressed as witches aboard an observation wheel.

No Broomsticks Required

Instead of flying through the sky on broomsticks, participants enjoyed panoramic views of Central Florida from The Orlando Eye, a 400-foot-tall attraction.

The observation wheel features 30 enclosed, air-conditioned capsules and offers visitors sweeping views of the Orlando area.

The Halloween event took place between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., allowing costumed participants to experience the attraction free of charge.

Guests were encouraged to wear family-friendly witch costumes, although full-face masks and weapon-like accessories were prohibited.

Some Famous Characters Joined the Witches

The celebration also featured special appearances from popular Florida theme park characters.

The LEGO Wacky Witch from LEGOLAND Florida Resort joined the festivities, along with Peppa Pig from Peppa Pig Theme Park Florida.

Their participation added another playful element to an already unusual Halloween gathering.

The event was organized as part of seasonal celebrations associated with Merlin Entertainments, which operates several major attractions across Central Florida.

Orlando Celebrates Halloween in Its Own Way

Florida is known for unusual headlines, and this event fits perfectly into that tradition.

While some communities celebrate Halloween with haunted houses, pumpkin patches and costume parades, Orlando decided to send nearly 200 witches into the sky.

The event also highlighted the area’s growing collection of family-friendly Halloween attractions.

LEGOLAND Florida’s Brick or Treat celebration continues on select dates through November 1, while Peppa Pig Theme Park’s Halloween Party runs on select dates through October 31.

A Halloween Record to Remember

The gathering brought together costumes, tourism and a little Florida-style creativity.

For one evening, The Orlando Eye became the setting for an unusual spectacle: 184 witches rising high above International Drive as the sun set over Central Florida.

And unlike the witches of Halloween legends, these participants didn’t need a single broomstick to take flight.
