A Miami company is recalling a popular mixed-chip snack after federal inspectors found that the product contains pork from Colombia that is not eligible for import into the United States.

Inexport Logistics LLC is recalling approximately 189 pounds of YUPI “Golpe con Todo Sabor BBQ,” a snack mix sold in 60-gram bags.

The mix includes potato chips, plantain chips and chicharrón — crispy pork cracklings.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, the problem is not simply that the snack contains pork. The issue is where that pork came from.

The chicharrón was produced in Colombia, which is not currently eligible to export meat products to the United States under federal requirements.

The recalled packages also do not have the required import marks on their labels.

Federal inspectors discovered the problem during a recall effectiveness check after the product was found at a retail location.

The affected snacks were distributed to stores and distributors in Florida as well as Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota and Texas.

So far, there have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury connected to eating the product.

However, federal officials are concerned that some of the recalled bags could still be sitting in consumers’ homes.

Anyone who has YUPI “Golpe con Todo Sabor BBQ” mixed chips should not eat them. The USDA says consumers should throw the product away or return it to the store where it was purchased.

The recall applies to the affected product regardless of the date printed on the package.
