Pedestrian safety remains a serious concern across Central Florida, where 86 pedestrians have been killed so far in 2026, according to crash data highlighted in a new report by WFTV.

The data covers seven Central Florida counties and shows that the region has recorded roughly 1,900 crashes involving pedestrians this year.

The numbers highlight the dangers people face while walking along or crossing some of the region’s busiest roads. Central Florida has experienced rapid population growth in recent years, bringing more vehicles and pedestrians onto roads that were often designed primarily for cars.

Transportation officials and safety advocates continue to urge drivers to slow down, remain alert near intersections and crosswalks, and watch carefully for pedestrians, particularly at night.

Pedestrians are also encouraged to use designated crossings whenever possible and make themselves visible to drivers.

With months still remaining in 2026, the 86 deaths serve as a sobering reminder of the risks pedestrians face on Central Florida roads.
