The Jacksonville Jaguars are heading to London with one goal in mind: winning football games.
Head coach Liam Coen made it clear Wednesday that the team’s upcoming trip to England is about competition, not sightseeing, as Jacksonville prepares to face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
The Jaguars enter the matchup with a 3-1 record, two consecutive victories and first place in the AFC South. Philadelphia, meanwhile, holds a 2-2 record.
Coen described the trip as a business assignment, emphasizing that players must remain disciplined despite the distractions and changes that come with traveling overseas.
Two games, two major challenges
Jacksonville will face the Eagles at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 11 before meeting division rival Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium on October 18.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
The unusual schedule means the Jaguars must adjust to a different time zone, unfamiliar surroundings and nearly two weeks away from Jacksonville.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence acknowledged that international travel presents challenges but said the team’s previous experience playing in London should help players manage their routines.
Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen also sees an opportunity for teammates to spend more time together, study game film and strengthen communication.
Jaguars looking to build momentum
Jacksonville is coming off a 22-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals and has opened consecutive seasons with a 3-1 record for the first time in franchise history.
However, Coen warned that early success does not guarantee anything.
The coach emphasized that the Jaguars must continue proving themselves on the field rather than focusing on outside praise or national attention.
Injury concerns ahead of Sunday
Jacksonville will also have to adjust defensively after safety Caleb Ransaw was placed on injured reserve following a knee injury against Cincinnati.
Rookie Jalen Huskey could make his regular-season debut as the team looks to fill the gap in its secondary.
For Jacksonville, the next two weeks represent an opportunity to strengthen its position in the AFC South while competing on an international stage.
And according to its head coach, the message is simple: London is a business trip
