What began as a routine food delivery turned into a violent encounter after an Uber Eats driver was allegedly shot and struck with a handgun when he returned to an apartment complex hoping to get a woman’s phone number.

The incident led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man and a police investigation that reportedly uncovered suspected illegal drugs and thousands of dollars in cash.

According to police reports cited by South Florida news outlets on Tuesday, October 13, the delivery driver had completed an order at an apartment complex before returning to the property.

Investigators say the driver wanted to speak with a woman he had encountered during the delivery and ask for her phone number.

Instead, the situation escalated into violence.

Driver Shot and Attacked

Police allege that the driver was confronted and assaulted after returning to the apartment complex.

During the confrontation, the driver was shot and struck in the head with a handgun.

Despite his injuries, he survived and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not publicly established that the woman’s involvement extended beyond the driver’s attempt to contact her.

Police Arrest Suspect

Investigators identified the suspect as Khuslen Saruultuya, 33, who was arrested Monday evening.

According to the reported arrest information, Saruultuya faces several criminal charges, including attempted felony murder and aggravated battery.

The charges remain allegations, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Search of Apartment Reveals Suspected Drug Operation

The investigation took an unexpected turn when deputies searched the suspect’s apartment.

According to investigators, officers discovered suspected cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms and hundreds of prescription pills.

Police also reported finding a room allegedly used to mix, package and label narcotics for distribution.

Approximately $11,394 in cash was seized during the search. Investigators believe the money may be connected to illegal drug sales.

Saruultuya now faces additional drug trafficking and controlled substance charges.

Victim Escaped and Drove Himself to Hospital

Investigators said the confrontation began when the suspect approached the driver in a gray Corvette and pointed a firearm at him.

The driver was ordered to the ground, where a bullet reportedly grazed his right buttock. The suspect then allegedly struck him in the back of the head with the gun, leaving a wound approximately two inches long.

According to the arrest report, the woman tried to stop the confrontation while the suspect continued threatening the driver.

The victim eventually escaped and drove himself to South Miami Hospital for treatment.
