ORLANDO, Fla. — Nearly 15 years after a Florida mother of three mysteriously disappeared, Orlando police announced a major breakthrough Wednesday, arresting her former fiancé and charging him with second-degree murder.
Dale Smith Jr. was taken into custody Wednesday morning, October 14, by the Orlando Police Department’s Fugitive Unit and SWAT Team in connection with the disappearance of Michelle Parker, whose case has remained unsolved since November 2011.
The arrest marks a significant development in one of Central Florida’s long-running missing-person investigations. Despite the murder charge, Parker’s remains have never been found.
According to an official statement provided to DUANEWS by the Orlando Police Department, investigators believe Smith was the last known person to see or hear from Parker on November 17, 2011, when she dropped off their children at his home.
Parker disappeared that day, leaving behind unanswered questions and a family that has spent nearly 15 years waiting for answers.
New Technology Helps Investigators Revisit Old Evidence
Police say the arrest followed years of investigative work, including thousands of hours spent reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses and conducting forensic analysis.
Over the past year, the Orlando Police Department expanded the team assigned to Parker’s disappearance and launched a focused review of the case.
Detectives revisited witness testimony, examined statements previously made by Smith and conducted an extensive analysis of digital evidence collected during the original investigation.
According to police, technological advances over the past 14 years allowed investigators to examine information from phones, computers and vehicles in greater detail than was possible when Parker first disappeared.
That analysis uncovered additional information that helped investigators move the case forward.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed the specific digital findings that contributed to Smith’s arrest.
Police Chief: Investigation Never Stopped
Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith praised the detectives who continued working on the case despite the passage of time.
“Our detectives continued to pursue leads and follow the facts wherever they led,” Chief Smith said. “Their work reflects this department’s commitment to investigating every case thoroughly and pursuing justice, regardless of how much time has passed.”
The department specifically recognized Detectives Phil McMican, John Stollmeyer and Brandon Kerr, along with Analyst Andrew Boyd, for their work advancing the investigation.
Police also acknowledged their collaboration with the Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit, including State Attorney Monique Worrell and Assistant State Attorney William Jay.
Michelle Parker Has Still Not Been Found
Although Smith is now facing a murder charge, investigators say the search for Parker is not over.
Her remains have not been located, and authorities are continuing efforts to determine where she may be.
For Parker’s family, the arrest represents a major step in a case that has remained unresolved for nearly a decade and a half. However, important questions about what happened to her remain unanswered.
Police say they are committed to locating her remains and providing additional answers to her loved ones.
“In Orlando, we do not back down, and we do not give up. We will continue to pursue justice for every victim and hold those responsible accountable,” Chief Smith said.
Murder Charge Filed as Investigation Continues
Smith has been charged with second-degree murder, but the allegations have not yet been proven in court. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Orlando police said protecting the integrity of the investigation and the upcoming prosecution remains a priority. The department declined to release further details at this stage.
The case now moves into the judicial process, where prosecutors will be responsible for presenting evidence supporting the charge.
For nearly 15 years, Michelle Parker’s disappearance has remained an unanswered mystery in Central Florida.
Wednesday’s arrest may bring investigators closer to explaining what happened, but one of the most important questions remains: Where is Michelle Parker?
