Tampa police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man seen in newly released video as detectives investigate a deadly shooting that has now been classified as a homicide.

The case began on the afternoon of September 22, when officers responded to reports of a shooting near Nebraska Avenue and McEwen Avenue.

When police arrived, they found a man in his early 60s suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided emergency assistance before Tampa Fire Rescue transported him to a hospital.

The victim later died from his injuries. Tampa Police announced Thursday that investigators have now reclassified the case as a homicide investigation.

Police release video of the suspect

As detectives continue searching for answers, police have taken the unusual step of releasing surveillance video showing the person they are trying to identify.

According to Tampa Police, the man seen in the video appears to have a medium build, red or light-brown hair and a short beard.

One detail could be particularly important in identifying him: police say he was riding a distinctive red mountain bike.

Investigators hope someone who watches the footage may recognize the man, his appearance or the bicycle and provide information that leads police to him.

Authorities have not publicly announced the victim’s identity in Thursday’s release, and the circumstances that led to the shooting remain under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tampa Police at 813-231-6130 and reference report #26-561780. Anonymous information can also be provided through Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 800-873-TIPS (8477).
