Keep the umbrella close. Jacksonville is heading into a wet stretch of weather, with repeated rounds of rain and thunderstorms expected through the weekend and into next week.
As of Saturday evening, October 3, the National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms remain possible overnight. Temperatures are expected to fall to around 75 degrees, with mostly cloudy conditions.
The bigger concern begins over the next several days.
A stalled front combined with abundant tropical moisture is expected to bring repeated rounds of rain across Northeast Florida. Several inches of rainfall could accumulate in some locations, increasing the possibility of localized flooding — particularly in areas hit by multiple heavy downpours.
Sunday will remain warm, with a high near 87 degrees and a roughly 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances increase further Sunday night before reaching around 90% on Monday.
The unsettled weather is expected to continue Tuesday and Wednesday, with showers, thunderstorms and breezy conditions.
And rain may not be the only concern.
The National Weather Service says a moderate nor’easter is expected to develop next week. By Tuesday, Northeast Florida could face stronger northeast winds, dangerous surf, an increased risk of rip currents and possible moderate tidal flooding along the Atlantic coast and waterways.
For Jacksonville residents, the message heading into the new week is simple: expect plenty of clouds, keep an umbrella nearby and watch for water accumulating on roads during heavier downpours.
