A major undercover investigation in Central Florida has resulted in the arrests of 20 men accused of attempting to meet minors for sexual activity, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation, known as Operation Cooked, was announced Thursday during a news conference involving Sheriff Christopher Blackmon, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins.

Undercover investigators posed as children during online conversations with adults suspected of seeking sexual contact with minors.

According to authorities, suspects communicated with undercover detectives and allegedly arranged meetings with people they believed were underage.

Officers arrested suspects after they reportedly arrived at designated meeting locations.

How Many People Were Arrested?

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office announced 20 arrests.

The men ranged in age from 22 to 64. Investigators said five of those arrested had young children of their own, while three were visiting Central Florida on vacation.

Authorities also reported that five of the suspects were unlawfully present in the United States.

The arrests involved individuals from different backgrounds, highlighting the challenges investigators face when identifying potential online predators.

Which Agencies Were Involved?

The investigation brought together multiple law enforcement agencies from Central Florida and beyond.

Participating organizations included the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Orlando Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, St. Cloud Police Department and federal Homeland Security personnel.

The Florida Office of Statewide Prosecution is overseeing prosecution of the cases.

Why Is This Investigation Important?

Authorities say online platforms can allow adults to conceal their identities while attempting to contact children.

Investigators warned that social media, messaging services and online gaming environments can be used to approach minors.

Sheriff Blackmon urged parents to remain aware of their children’s online activities and emphasized that protecting children requires cooperation between families and law enforcement.

What Happens Next?

The defendants will face criminal proceedings based on their individual charges.

Investigators have indicated that efforts to identify additional suspects are continuing.

All individuals arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Operation Cooked is the latest example of law enforcement agencies in Central Florida using undercover online investigations to identify adults suspected of attempting to exploit children.
