Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has confirmed that two people have died in storm-related incidents following Hurricane Isaias, which struck Florida’s Gulf Coast before weakening as it moved inland.

According to the governor’s reported update, one person died after a tree fell onto a home, while another lost their life in a garage where a generator was being operated.

The deaths highlight the dangers that can remain even after a hurricane has passed, including falling trees, damaged infrastructure and the potentially deadly effects of carbon monoxide from generators.

The storm also caused widespread power outages across Florida, leaving hundreds of thousands of customers without electricity. Emergency crews have been working to clear debris, restore power and assess damage in affected communities.

Although Isaias has weakened and is no longer classified as a hurricane, flooding and dangerous road conditions remain concerns in some areas.

Residents are being urged to stay away from downed power lines, avoid flooded roads and operate portable generators only outdoors, well away from windows, doors and ventilation openings.

Florida authorities continue assessing the storm’s impact, and the number of confirmed storm-related deaths could change as investigations and recovery operations continue.
