JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — New details have emerged about a deadly confrontation between Jacksonville police officers and a 32-year-old woman who was shot and killed Sunday morning on the city’s Northside.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), the fatal shooting followed a series of reports involving a woman allegedly threatening people with a firearm over two days.
Police Had Received Multiple Calls
The first incident was reported Saturday morning, October 10, around 9:15 a.m., when a caller told authorities that a woman dressed in purple was waving a gun on Monaco Drive.
Approximately one hour later, police received another report involving a woman allegedly pointing a firearm at a man and his dog on Briarcliff Road East.
Officers searched the area but were unable to locate her.
On Sunday morning, police received another emergency call reporting that a woman was pointing a gun at a man near Mar Vic Lane and Dunn Avenue.
Four officers arrived around 10:22 a.m. and identified the woman as the person believed to be involved in the earlier incidents.
What Happened Before the Shooting?
According to investigators, the woman was carrying several bags and shouting as officers approached.
Police said they repeatedly ordered her to show her hands, but she did not comply.
The confrontation continued as the woman walked approximately a quarter of a mile, with officers following her and issuing additional commands.
When the group reached the intersection of Mar Vic Lane and Biscayne Boulevard, authorities say the woman pulled a firearm from one of her bags and fired toward officers.
The bullet reportedly struck the driver’s side door of a police patrol vehicle.
Three officers then opened fire, striking the woman multiple times.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
No Officers Injured; Investigation Underway
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed that no officers were injured during the confrontation.
Authorities have not publicly identified the woman, pending notification of her family.
According to Action News Jax, this was the 15th officer-involved shooting involving the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 2026.
The shooting is subject to further investigation, including an independent review by the State Attorney’s Office.
Police have described the woman’s actions as an armed threat, but the full circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting remain under investigation.
The available account of the confrontation is based primarily on statements provided by law enforcement. The investigation will examine the evidence and the officers’ use of deadly force.
