Only in Florida: Thirsty bear breaks into Naples patio and checks the refrigerator

NAPLES, Fla. — Forget the usual midnight snack. In Florida, even the bears apparently know where to find a refrigerator!

A Naples homeowner had an unexpected visitor when a curious black bear wandered into a residential patio and decided to investigate what was inside.

According to a local news report published October 21, the bear entered through an open gate and began exploring the area, including the refrigerator and nearby trash cans.

But what was the furry visitor looking for?

Maybe a cold drink. Maybe a snack. Or perhaps the bear simply wanted to see what was on the menu!

Whatever the reason, the unexpected guest turned an ordinary Florida home into another perfect example of why the Sunshine State never runs out of unusual stories.

A Refrigerator With an Unexpected Customer

Florida black bears are known for their excellent sense of smell and their ability to locate food, even in residential neighborhoods.

Wildlife officials regularly remind residents to secure garbage, remove outdoor food sources and avoid leaving anything that might attract bears.

And while this particular bear’s intentions remain a mystery, one thing is certain: a refrigerator is not exactly the kind of place homeowners expect to find wildlife.

Only in Florida!

Florida is famous for alligators crossing roads, iguanas falling from trees during cold weather and bears occasionally wandering into neighborhoods.

Now, apparently, refrigerators can be added to the list of unexpected wildlife destinations.

The bear may not have made a reservation, but it certainly knew where the kitchen was!

Editor’s note: The suggestion that the bear was thirsty is humorous speculation. Its actual motivation has not been established.
