MILWAUKEE, Wis. — October 25, 2026 — What began as a dream start for the Tampa Bay Rays turned into a devastating World Series defeat Saturday night, as the Milwaukee Brewers erased a four-run deficit to win 5-4 and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the championship series.

The Rays appeared to be in complete control after scoring four runs in the opening inning at American Family Field. But their early advantage disappeared as Milwaukee fought back, exposing defensive mistakes and bullpen struggles that ultimately cost Tampa Bay a crucial victory.

A Perfect Start That Quickly Fell Apart

Tampa Bay wasted no time putting pressure on Milwaukee.

Chandler Simpson opened the scoring with an RBI single, followed by another run-scoring hit from Junior Caminero. Liam Hicks then delivered a powerful two-run home run, giving the Rays a stunning 4-0 advantage before Milwaukee had even stepped to the plate.

For Rays fans, it looked like the perfect response to Friday’s narrow 3-2 loss in Game 1.

But the celebration did not last long.

Milwaukee answered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, immediately cutting Tampa Bay’s lead in half.

The Brewers added another run in the fourth inning following a defensive error by Rays first baseman Jonathan Aranda, making it 4-3.

Milwaukee Completes the Comeback

The decisive momentum shift came in the sixth inning when Milwaukee’s Sal Frelick launched a solo home run to center field, tying the game at 4-4.

One inning later, Cooper Pratt delivered an RBI single that brought Brice Turang home, giving Milwaukee its first lead of the night.

The Rays were unable to respond.

Despite a late opportunity in the ninth inning, Tampa Bay failed to score, allowing the Brewers to secure another dramatic victory.

Rays Now Face a Serious World Series Challenge

After losing the first two games in Milwaukee, Tampa Bay returns to Florida facing enormous pressure.

The Rays are now two defeats away from losing the World Series, and their margin for error has become extremely small.

The team’s pitching and defense will be under particular scrutiny after Saturday’s collapse.

Starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen lasted just 3⅔ innings, allowing three runs on six hits. Tampa Bay’s bullpen was unable to protect the remaining lead.

Manager Kevin Cash and his players must now find answers quickly if they hope to keep their championship dreams alive.

World Series Returns to Florida

Game 3 is scheduled for Monday, October 26, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.

Playing in front of their home fans could provide the Rays with the energy they need to turn the series around.

But the challenge is significant. Milwaukee has won the first two games and carries the momentum of a remarkable comeback into Florida.

For Tampa Bay, Monday’s game is not mathematically an elimination contest, but another defeat would leave the Rays facing a nearly impossible task.
