A Jacksonville preschool teacher has been arrested on a felony child abuse charge after investigators accused her of grabbing a young student by the ear and dragging her across part of a classroom.
Cheyenne Alyssa Eigner, 28, was arrested on October 1 in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred on May 22 at Cornerstone Christian School, located at 9039 Beach Boulevard.
According to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrest report, investigators examined surveillance footage from the school as part of their investigation.
Police say the recording showed Eigner holding a young girl by the ear and pulling her from one side of a desk to the other.
Investigators reported that the child grabbed her ear immediately afterward and appeared to be experiencing pain. Authorities said the child did not suffer any lasting injuries.
School Says Teacher Was Fired
Following the arrest, Cornerstone Christian School confirmed that Eigner was a former employee.
In a statement provided to News4JAX, school administrators said they removed her from campus and terminated her employment as soon as they became aware of the incident.
The school also reported the matter to law enforcement and cooperated with investigators.
Administrators emphasized that student safety remains their priority and declined to provide further details because the case involves a minor and an ongoing legal proceeding.
Teacher Faces Felony Charge
Eigner is charged with one count of child abuse, classified as a third-degree felony under Florida law.
Although the alleged incident happened in May, the arrest took place more than four months later, on October 1.
The case has renewed attention to the responsibility of schools and childcare facilities to protect young children and respond promptly to allegations of mistreatment.
The allegations have not been proven in court, and Eigner is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
