Funny story in Tampa: Lost dog walks into police station

A lost dog in Florida apparently knew exactly where to go for help — straight to the police station.

A German Shepherd surprised officers at the Tampa Police Department’s District Two office after walking up to the building on September 30 and greeting an officer at the entrance.

The unusual encounter was captured on security cameras and later shared by the department, which jokingly described the four-legged visitor as an unexpected applicant for its K-9 unit.

Unfortunately for the dog, the police department already had enough K-9 officers.

Instead of offering him a job, officers took the friendly visitor to a veterinarian, where a microchip scan helped identify his owner.

The reunion was just as memorable as the dog’s unexpected visit.

When an officer arrived at the owner’s home, the woman explained that she had been desperately searching for her missing pet. She was overcome with relief when the officer revealed that he had found him.

The dog was safely reunited with his family just hours after his surprise appearance at the station.

According to reporting by the New York Post and WSVN, Tampa police used the incident to remind pet owners about the importance of microchipping their animals.

The German Shepherd may not have earned a police badge, but he certainly managed to get the attention of the entire department.
