FLORIDA — Floridians can expect another warm late-September day Tuesday, but the weather will look noticeably different depending on where you are in the Sunshine State.
While much of North and Central Florida should enjoy long periods of sunshine, South Florida faces a greater chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon.
Jacksonville: Mostly sunny and near 90°F
Jacksonville is expected to have one of the better weather days in the state Tuesday. The National Weather Service forecasts mostly sunny skies with a high near 90°F.
There is only about a 10% chance of showers or thunderstorms late in the afternoon, with temperatures dropping to around 71°F overnight.
At Jacksonville Beach, conditions should also remain mostly sunny, with a high around 86°F and only a small chance of a late-afternoon shower or thunderstorm.
Orlando: Warm, partly sunny and mostly dry
Central Florida should also see relatively quiet weather.
Orlando is forecast to reach approximately 89°F, with a morning temperature near 71°F and only about a 10% chance of precipitation during the day.
Skies should be partly sunny, making Tuesday considerably drier than the weather expected later in the week. Rain and thunderstorm chances increase substantially beginning Wednesday.
Tampa: Sunshine and temperatures around 90°F
The Tampa Bay area is also looking at a hot but generally pleasant Tuesday.
The National Weather Service forecasts mostly sunny skies and a high near 90°F in Tampa. Winds should remain relatively light, becoming southerly during the afternoon.
Tuesday night should be partly cloudy with temperatures falling to approximately 73°F.
Miami: Keep the umbrella nearby
The forecast changes as we move farther south.
Miami has about a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday, mainly after noon. The high should reach approximately 86°F.
Storm chances continue Tuesday evening and night, meaning South Florida residents may want to keep an umbrella nearby even if the morning starts relatively quiet.
Naples and Southwest Florida could see more storms
Southwest Florida has an even greater chance of wet weather.
The National Weather Service forecast for Naples calls for temperatures around 86°F, with thunderstorm chances reaching approximately 60% during the day.
The wetter pattern is expected to continue through much of the remainder of the week across Southwest Florida.
Tallahassee and the Panhandle: Plenty of sunshine
Northwest Florida should experience some of Tuesday’s nicest weather.
Tallahassee is forecast to be sunny, with temperatures ranging from around 61°F in the morning to approximately 91°F during the afternoon, with essentially no rain expected.
Panama City and other parts of the western Panhandle should also remain sunny and dry Tuesday, although rain chances are expected to increase later in the week.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee says wetter conditions are expected later this week, with rain chances increasing and potentially peaking over the weekend.
A clear north-to-south difference Tuesday
Overall, Tuesday should be a good weather day for much of northern and central Florida.
Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Orlando and Tampa should see plenty of sunshine with afternoon temperatures generally around 89–91°F.
But residents and visitors farther south — particularly around Miami, Naples and Southwest Florida — will have a noticeably higher chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
And there are signs that the relatively dry weather in parts of the state won’t last. Rain and thunderstorm chances are expected to increase across more of Florida as the week progresses. National Weather Service
