JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars have received encouraging news just hours before their highly anticipated NFL matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in London.
Philadelphia has ruled out five players for Sunday’s game, including two of its biggest offensive stars, running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver DeVonta Smith.
The absences could give Jacksonville a significant advantage as the Jaguars look to continue their strong start to the season.
According to Philadelphia’s injury report, Barkley will miss the game because of a hamstring injury, while Smith is also sidelined with a hamstring problem. Wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is unavailable because of an ankle injury, safety Marcus Epps has a groin injury, and offensive lineman Drew Kendall is dealing with a knee injury.
Barkley’s absence is particularly significant. The star running back suffered his injury during Philadelphia’s previous game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Smith, another important offensive weapon, will miss his second consecutive game. With both players unavailable, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will have fewer established offensive options against Jacksonville’s defense.
Jacksonville enters Sunday’s matchup with a 3–1 record, while Philadelphia stands at 2–2.
The Jaguars are aiming for their third consecutive victory, and the Eagles’ injury problems could improve their chances.
Philadelphia is also dealing with changes along its offensive line, making protection for Hurts another important concern.
However, the Eagles are not without reinforcements. Tight end Dallas Goedert and linebacker Zack Baun are expected to return after recovering from injuries.
The Jaguars and Eagles will face each other on Sunday, October 11, at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
For Jacksonville fans, the timing means an early Sunday morning kickoff.
Although injuries never guarantee a result, losing five players — including Barkley and Smith — represents a major challenge for Philadelphia.
The opportunity is there for Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars. Now they must take advantage of it on the field.
